I am always interested in new ways to use recycled materials and I am very excited that SFMOMA has selected my design as a Top 10 finalist in the “Scrappy Chair Design Challenge”. SFMOMA had asked artists, designers and makers to design and fabricate a chair made from “scrap” wood pieces, such as plywood sheets and other wood pieces from a recent exhibition, emphasizing the concept of re-use, sustainability and recycling. My design goal was to use the provided materials as efficiently as possible (one sheet of recycled plywood) without the use of any additional resources (glue, screws, etc.) to maximize sustainability. The name of the chair is “Intimate Conversation” - a chair to turn towards each other and have a more intimate conversation.
